& everything else ...
Why? Why? Why?! I get the feeling sometimes
that people might wonder why I took the time to create a
site about a glorified extra that was rarely in focus and
has no lines ...
Late in
August '99 I decided to delurk and register at the
JediCouncil at TF.N. I needed a username. I noticed a few
posters had handmaiden inspired names ... but no Yané's
were in sight. Huzzah! I'd found my username. Yané was
already used (later on, I found out that none other than
QGP* had registered the name!) so after much cursing, I
tacked on "of Naboo" and ... Yané of Naboo was
born!
So
initially, my choice of username was rather random. I
wasn't a handmaiden admirer at the time, I just needed a
username and that's what I ended up with. Pretty soon,
however, I began to wonder about this Yané person. So,
desirous of some information, I began to post at RO*'s
"what handmadien name do you like best" thread.
That would be the thread that spawned the RHS.
Quickly
enough, I got wrapped up in handmaiden analysis. looking
for pictures, trying to find info on actresses to which
there seemed to be no info for, wondering who was in what
scene with who. I particularly became caught up in the
mystery of the *elusive* Yané. It's pretty amazing how
Star Wars can inspire such obsession over minute detail.
The RHS
put up a website (or rather QGP did on our behalf)
sometime in mid-October '99. At that time, the website
was unique, as "handmaiden fever" had not
exactly caught on in the cyber-world yet. By the new
year, however, it seemed like interest was building.
Still, I seemed pretty alone in the "Yané as
favorite handmaiden" category. During Spring Break
that year, I decided to make a Yané "shrine"
... soon enough that simple "shrine" became a
full-fledged website.
So, here
it is, the *elusive* yané.
This
site has become an odd mixture of the earnest and the
joking. Mostly, it's just a bit of silliness to prettify
the web with and a strange little tribute to Star Wars,
the only thing in the world, I think, that could inspire
interest in a glorified extra that is rarely in focus and
has no lines.
*QGP and
RO were early RHS members.
