In The Phantom Menace, Queen Amidala's royal entourage included five handmaidens. Yané was the youngest of these handmaidens. She was left behind on Naboo, perhaps due to her youth or inexperience, when Amidala escaped to Coruscant to address the Senate. Not much else is known about Yané, specifically. This site is not called the *elusive* yané for nothing.

Yané's character can be fleshed out by considering the handmaiden role in general. The handmaidens serve more functions than the term "handmaiden" may imply. True, they help Amidala with her hair, make-up, and clothes, but they also serve as her companions, confidantes, and loyal bodyguards. Further, if the need arises, a handmaiden can act as Amidala's decoy, potentially putting herself into grave danger.
